CMC Women Bounce Back in Dominant Win Over San Bernardino Valley
The Copper Mountain College Women's Basketball team responded in a big way, bouncing back with an emphatic victory over IEAC rival San Bernardino Valley College. Once again, the Fighting Cacti proved that early energy from opponents rarely lasts when matched with Copper Mountain's relentless pressure and depth.
San Bernardino Valley showed poise early, handling the Cacti press, but struggled to find rhythm in the half court. That defensive disruption allowed Copper Mountain to seize control quickly, jumping out to a commanding 29–13 lead by the end of the first quarter. From there, the Fighting Cacti never looked back, dictating tempo on both ends of the floor.
Copper Mountain's balance continues to be a nightmare for opposing defenses. Mailana Mattos led the way with a standout 35-point performance, but she was far from alone. Gia McFadden poured in 21 points, while Zoe Tennell added 28, giving the Cacti three players over 20 points and underscoring the depth and versatility of the lineup.
With multiple scoring threats paired with their vaunted "Monster Press," Copper Mountain continues to establish itself as one of the most difficult teams in the conference to contain.
The Fighting Cacti will now enjoy a week off before returning to action on Saturday, February 7, when they travel to Palo Verde College to take on the Pirates. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
