13-0!!! Women open IEAC Conference play with statement win!
The Copper Mountain College Women's Basketball team continued its dominant, record-setting season on Wednesday night, opening IEAC conference play with an emphatic 104–68 victory over College of the Desert.
The Fighting Cacti wasted no time asserting control, jumping out to a commanding 34–17 lead in the first quarter and never looking back. Copper Mountain's relentless defensive pressure dictated the tempo all night, forcing College of the Desert into 35 turnovers that routinely turned into easy transition baskets at the other end.
Once again, the Cacti showcased the depth and balance that have defined their historic run. On any given night, a different player can lead the way, and against Desert it was Jayla Speakman who paced the attack with a dominant double-double, pouring in 25 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. Gia McFadden added 17 points, while Zh'mya Martin chipped in 13, as Copper Mountain eclipsed the century mark for the fourth time this season.
The lopsided win underscored why the Fighting Cacti have emerged as one of the most formidable teams in the conference, blending suffocating defense with unselfish, high-octane offense.
Copper Mountain will look to continue its dominant season when it hosts Mt. San Jacinto College on Wednesday, December 17, with tip-off set for 5:00 p.m. at the Bell Center on the beautiful campus of Copper Mountain College.
