Copper Mountain Men Reassert Defensive Identity in 100–56 Win Over College of the Desert
Defense returned to center stage on Saturday as the Copper Mountain College Men's Basketball team delivered a dominant 100–56 victory over College of the Desert. After drifting away from their defensive standard in recent games, the Fighting Cacti flipped the switch, frustrating the Roadrunners from start to finish and holding them to just 56 points.
The Cacti set the tone early with active hands, constant ball pressure, and disciplined rotations, making it difficult for COD to find any rhythm on the offensive end. That defensive intensity fueled an efficient and unselfish performance on offense, particularly in the first half, where Copper Mountain moved the ball quickly and shared the scoring load. Eleven of the 12 players in uniform found their way into the scoring column, highlighting the depth and balance of the roster.
Tyrece Rose once again led the way, finishing with 19 points, including three three-pointers. Amarion Wallace added 18 points of his own, knocking down four shots from beyond the arc, while DJ Ralston chipped in 18 points, three three-pointers, and a block to round out a strong all-around effort.
With defense back as the backbone of the program, the Fighting Cacti now turn their attention to the road. Copper Mountain will travel Wednesday, January 28, to face IEAC rival Mt. San Jacinto College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
