#19 Ranked CMC Men Grind Out 90–77 IEAC Conference Victory
The 3C2A So Cal #19 ranked Copper Mountain College Men's Basketball team showed grit and resilience, grinding out a hard-fought 90–77 IEAC Conference victory over Palo Verde College on Wednesday night.
The Fighting Cacti never fully found their offensive rhythm, but leaned on their trademark pressure defense to frustrate the Pirates throughout the contest. While Copper Mountain forced turnovers and dictated tempo defensively, missed opportunities around the basket kept Palo Verde within striking distance for much of the game.
CMC was able to create separation late in the first half, putting together a strong run to take a 48–33 lead into the break. However, the second half proved to be a different challenge, as the Cacti struggled to reestablish momentum coming out of the locker room. The remainder of the game turned into a basket-for-basket battle, with the Pirates refusing to go away.
When the game tightened, Copper Mountain's experience and shot-making rose to the moment. Timely three-point baskets from Tyrece Rose and Torrey Woods provided the breathing room the Cacti needed to seal the conference win.
Copper Mountain showcased its offensive balance with three players scoring over 20 points. Torrey Woods led the way with 23 points, Tyrece Rose added 22, and Amarion Wallace chipped in 20 to power the Fighting Cacti to victory.
With the win, CMC continues to position itself strongly in IEAC play. The Fighting Cacti now turn their attention to a pivotal conference matchup, traveling to Victor Valley College to face the Rams on Saturday, January 10, with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
